Welcome to Bethesda UMC at Haw Creek Commons. Bethesda has been proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, in this community, since 1844. This is a very exciting time in the life of the church as our main building is being renovated to serve east Asheville in new, and exciting, ways.

Bethesda is a part of Haw Creek Commons; a collaborative initiative of the church, the Western North Carolina Conference, and the Blue Ridge District. Through the support of the conference and a Duke Endowment, the campus of Haw Creek Commons serves the community in many ways: the Haw Creek Commons house is a retreat center for seminary students, clergy and lay people, the community garden and bee hives provide local food and educational opportunities.

Renovations at Bethesda’s main church building will eventually offer co-working spaces, a commercial grade kitchen for micro food businesses, meeting rooms for community groups and a modern sanctuary to continue the good work of Bethesda UMC.

While the church is being renovated Bethesda’s congregation meets on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the Haw Creek Commons house next door. When you visit you will find a house full of caring, and welcoming, people ready to share God’s love through Jesus with you. Come a little early, or stay for a while after, to have a cup of coffee freshly brewed in the kitchen, a doughnut, or a ham biscuit; depending on the Sunday.
