Bethesda United Methodist Church, along with Missional Wisdom Foundation, have united to create Haw Creek Commons; changing the concept of church from a Sunday morning event to a full community experience. The entire property is being renovated to accommodate multiple uses and events for people in Haw Creek, and surrounding, area to come together.
Currently Haw Creek Commons houses a thriving community garden with associated chickens, pollinators, a natural playscape in the property woodlands that is a favorite with local families with children, a retreat house with an inviting front porch, and a workspace for local quilters. Haw Creek Commons also provides space for our local Girl Scouts.
Renovations to the main church building will be completed this summer, which begins with the Sanctuary space, utilizing movable chairs to allow for large group activities, and fitness classes, during the week. Soon to follow will be a commercial grade kitchen, available to the community, and a co-working space.
In recognition of its activity with Haw Creek Commons, the North Carolina Council of Churches recognized Bethesda United Methodist Church as a Partner in Health and Wellness congregation for demonstrating its commitment to health as a practice of our faith and putting that faith into action.
